Yesterday Matt and I went to the Houston Livestock and Rodeo at Reliant Stadium. This is the dome where the Houston Texans play, along with 3 other very large buildings (making up what they call Reliant Park). We had no idea what to expect, so we parked where our pass told us too and followed the crowd until we got handed a program at the entrance gate. There we discovered this was a HUGE event and we would be getting our walking exercise in for the day.

I Shoulda Been A Cowboy... (Part 1)
I am well aware that Jon's blog keeps getting cooler and I have no chance of catching up to his coolness and excitment, but at least this is better than pictures of my cats :)

We had no idea what to expect, so we parked where our pass told us too and followed the crowd until we got handed a program at the entrance gate. There we discovered this was a HUGE event and we would be getting our walking exercise in for the day.

The first event Matt read off to me was Pig Race at 4:30 so I got very excited remembering my Flemington Fair days so we hurried off to the kids section to watch the Pig races. (Matt had never seen one, I was appalled, but then I talked to Jessica on the phone and she was just as ignorant). They had 3 sets of pigs race, the last they named the 4 pigs after politicans (Hilary RodHAM, Barka-ribs, I forget who the third one was and then John McCain (i guess he didn't want to make fun of that name)). Anyway, Barack and Hilary didn't leave the gate when they opened it, to which the announcer said "I guess it looks like Barack and Hilary have no idea what they are doing". I laughed, Matt glared, Jessica (on the phone) suddenly didn't think Pig races were so dumb anymore.

They also had Swifty the swimming pig - he was tiny! They basically put him on the block and yelled at him until he jumped. They are going to S. Dakota next to meet up with the World Records people to test his swimming time. It was cute though.
As with a fair there was FOOD. And where there is food stands of everything imaginable, there is also a portable McDonalds! We didn't eat there, but you can bet I got a funnel cake!
Matt wanted Fried Alligator for dinner, so we stopped at the sign and he got some Fried Alligator. I got a corn dog and corn on the cob. Good greasy, overpriced food :)

Totally out of order, but we also paid the price to buy Carnival tickets and rode the Ferris Wheel. It is something like the biggest one in the country, or in half the country, or the biggest traveling one, or something. Anyway, it was tall and creepy at the top!
View of the fair from the top.

Baseball Bloopers
Matt signed up for the softball league through work, and since they need girls I get to play too. So we went to Academy to buy some gloves (Matt didn't have one and mine at home is too small anyway), some balls and a bat. We got home and ate some lunch and just went out between the apartments throwing the ball around.
It is a nice day and I decided the cats could play outside for awhile (Peanut was actually crying at the front door). So they walked around while we threw the ball around.

I threw a bad throw because Magic was wandering off and Matt didn't catch it. And it rolled (we are playing on cement mind you)...

Right down the gutter :( We lost our ball within 10 minutes of buying it :( Magic tried to help get it out for us, but to no success :(

So we switched to a more calm activity...reading books we got from the library, while the cats continued to enjoy the sun.
The end.

Farve, Vet and Elk
On Thursday I sat and watched Brett Farve cry, and listened to people call in and say how much they loved him. One lady had twin boys - Brett and Farve. I wonder how she picked who got which name. Then at noon (1 EST) they switched from ESPN to ESPN News which I don't get and I didn't get to watch the end of it. :(

I am going to buy it. K-Love radio played his first quote over and over, so after ESPN turned it off on my I got to hear that quote a few more...million times.
This morning was Vet morning, and I think Magic knew it because she would not come out from under the bed. I put their leashes on, and climbed in the car. Peanut instantly made herself comfortable on my lap and Magic started drooling, but also didn't leave my lap. After sizing up the cages and the fatties I just carried the cats into the vet. I put Peanut down on a chair and she just sprawled out and made herself comfortable. Magic settled in...directly on top of her.
Magic was popular, the people thinking she was the prettiest cat ever - I guess they didn't notice the drool all down her. Peanut then settled in on the scale and looked like she was about to take a nap. They both passed as good healthy cats. I asked about Peanut's weight (who hasn't lost a pound since last year) and the vet said she was skinny - HA Texas must have different standards. Oh well.
We thawed some Venison for burgers tonight and Elk sausage for breakfast in the morning. I thought the Elk was already in sausages but apparently it was just hamburger meat, and Matt made the burgers out of the Elk instead of the Venison. So we had Elk sausage hamburgers for dinner, they were good, tasted like a Brat in burger shape. Good dinner.
Watching some History channel now...exciting Friday night.

Election Day
Today I will get a break from all the Clinton and Obama commericals. It will be a welcome break as they have been playing nonstop lately. My "favorite" is a Clinton commerical where they would say a line in English and then say it in Spanish - repeating this way for a minute long spot. Such joys of living down here.
I read Andy's blog and his last entry says "put 11 gallons in the car today" - maybe I should start that sort of updating. I don't drive my car, I avoid it like the plague. This works well in the fact that I have filled my gas tank once since I arrived 3 weeks ago and I am still 1/2 full right now, but it doesn't work well in the fact that if I don't turn my car on at least every other day it questionably doesn't start. Since we have a vertical garage where my car is pulled in all the way to the front, it makes the whole building shake when I turn it on. Quite amusing for me, but I am sure the person above me isn't too thrilled. On a more positive note, it is much easier to drive Matt's little car around in the traffic than mine. I have ventured to driving more than just Sundays (where I got my stick driving practice because no one is on the roads on Sundays) to driving it by myself! I know you're so proud...
I made Shepard's Pie for dinner last night, and gave half to MM upstairs because otherwise I would be eating it for the next week. It was good, I love potatoes. I used the mixer Cindy gave me thinking it would be like mixing the potatoes in the Kitchen Aid one at home. I put the mixer on the lowest setting and WOAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. It was so fast potatoes went everywhere. (Peanut enjoyed licking them all up). So I used the mixer as a masher instead, which worked way better than my fork.
In a switchup from all the basketball I have been watching at night I am now watching pre-season Astros baseball. It is not very exciting, BUT today they played the Tigers! I love watching the Tigers, and the game was very exciting. However, my Tigers failed to pull off their comeback - hitting a pop fly to end the top of the ninth. (and by comeback I mean overcome their screwup as they blew a 6-0 lead in the 4th to tie it up against our "best" closer). Tigers lost 10-11. Maybe I should be an Astros fan because thats all the games on tv down here, but I figure for the 6 games the Tigers play the Astros in pre season I can still be a Tigers fan! Matt and I have tickets to go to a pre-season Tigers game at the end of the month, I am excited. It is the last pre-season game, so hopefully they will play their real players and I can cheer for My Tiger! Who's YOUR Tiger!! Oh I miss those commercials :(
Thats all for now.
