Yesterday I flew back from Denver to Houston...sorta. I took off from Denver late and then flew in circles for awhile until we landed... in Austin. The Houston airport closed due to bad weather, so we sat in a 737 parking lot in Austin for a little over an hour. Then we took off for the half hour flight into Houston, and that was awful. Hold the seat in front of you awful. I was very grateful for Matt picking me up, and the drive home was pretty nasty too. The nasty weather continued throughout the night (both cats slept smashed up against my side), and I got up multiple times to watch the river flow down our sidewalk. Thankfully, the drainage works fairly well in my apartment complex. Outside of it... not so much.
This is Synott Rd (I live on). This picture is taken through the bars of our gate.
A truck going through.
This is also my road (the other direction). The black fence is where I live, the shady temp fence is where they are building.
Directly to the left of the above picture is this neighborhood. Good luck going through there!
You can't tell in the picture, but there is a speed limit sign. The water is to the bottom of the actual sign.
Here are our two drainage ponds. This one is to the north of us (where they are building).
This is to the south of us, where while Matt was taking pictures I saw a snake!!! I watched the news for awhile this morning and they said to not walk in any water because snakes come out.
So Matt is hanging out with me at home today. The news showed lots of pictures, the I-10/Beltway 8 intersection (about 5 miles from here) has 10 feet of water under it. The Richmond exit off Beltway 8 is under water (3 miles from here). The path towards skiing (north of I-10, about 7 miles from here) is completely underwater as well.I am lucky that I landed and am home safe and that we have power! I didn't get to watch all the news coverage of Ike, so this kinda made up for it.
PS. The misquitos are out!

And because she has never seen turtles before... I showed her our local turtle population. They all came up for us - probably around 20!
We then continued our ride to Sonic because Laura had never been there either. We got some popcorn chicken and limeades.
And I know how much you all love kitty pictures.
