Baby Snapping Turtles

If you remember earlier pictures, there was a mama snapping turtle up north making her way from the hot tub area back down to the lake earlier this year. Well the Drost landscapers were planting some flowers and found a bunch of (about 40) baby turtle eggs in the garden. They were about the size of small golf balls. Because we didn't want 40 snapping turtles appearing in our garden, the eggs were transplanted down to the lake.

This past week up north, baby snappers were found by the sailboat. We aren't sure if they are "our" eggs, or eggs from somewhere by the sailboat, but regardless.

They had such long tails! Their shells were also very soft.

Also a baby boxer turtle, much cuter and a nice smooth, hard shell. I guess Snappers can't bring their heads into their shells as protection and that's why they are so evil and ugly. The boxer turtles are much nicer, but can hole up inside their shells.

The turtles were put back where they came from. Part of me wishes that they survive the many predators of baby turtles, but the other part doesn't really want more snapping turtles swimming around where I am swimming around.
